  2. What do all the accommodation acronyms mean?

There are several type of acronyms used frequently.  Some of these, such as BB, or more often B&B have entered normally speech.  Here is a list of the ones that we use:

    • RO: Room Only: typically just a room in a hotel.  This is more common with large hotel chains
    • BB: Bed & Breakfast: can be a description of a type of accommodation, but is also used in hotels.  As the description says you get a breakfast included in the price
    • HB: Half Board: like bed & breakfast, with an additional meal.  This is normally an evening meal
    • FB: Full Board: Includes all main meals
    • AI: All Inclusive: Includes all meals, snacks and drinks.  The variety of the drinks is variable.  Generally, the drinks will be local brands and the serving time may be restricted.  There are certain areas and resorts (particularly Sandals in the Caribbean) where they serve major brands.  (Infact, if you go for Sandal's Butler service, they will ask you what brand is your favourite drink, and have one ready for you when you reach your room!)
    • SC: Self Catering: normally accommodation with some cooking facilities.  The quality of the cooking facilities will depend on where you go and the quality of the property, but it can be as little as a couple of electric rings
