It seems incredible that although Spain is one of the most visited countries on earth, vast swathes of it are hardly known at all. But during the past few years its more historic and scenic aspects have been brought to the attention of the discerning traveller. For many centuries Spain did not really exist as a nation state, being more a collection of countries such as Aragon, Castille, Cantabria and of course, Catalonia. Often separated by high mountain ranges, they evolved independently, becoming strikingly different with even their own languages.

Six nights in centrally located excellent quality four-star hotels, with breakfast and dinner on first evening
Two dinners in local restaurants highlighting Catalonia’s truly original cuisine
Guided tour of Barcelona, Catalonia’s capital and city of art, music and Gaudi
Timed and guided tour of Gaudi’s masterpiece, the basilica of Sagrada Familia, symbol of the city and quite frankly one of the world’s greatest, original and most enthralling buildings and a panoramic guided tour of Barcelona, Catalonia’s capital and city of art, music and Gaudi.
Visit to the beautiful medieval city of Girona, an overwhelmingly beautiful medieval city with an undeniable Moorish centre
Walking tour of Tarragona, ancient capital of Roman ‘Iberia’ with a host of monuments to match
Visit to Montserrat’s world famous Benedictine monastery, spectacularly crowning scissor-like mountains and home to the Black Madonna, one of Spain’s most renowned pilgrimages
Visit to Cava vineyard, discovering the ancient art of wine making
Tour of Poblet, an amazingly preserved Cistercian monastery, final resting place of the Aragonese Royals, family of Henry VIII’s first wife
Escorted by an experienced tour manager
Return flights
